H. D. Hatchett

Superintendent & First Football Coach

Hammond Durwood Hatchett served as superintendent of Bremen Schools from 1929–1945. H. D. developed a love for football during his college years. He organized the first football team at Bremen for the 1934–35 school term. He coached Bremen’s first football win on November 8, 1934 against Tallapoosa. The next school year the board hired a full-time coach, but during World War II, he returned to the sidelines when the coach was drafted into service.
